The Jacobs Software Engineering Center (JSEC) is the company's premier custom software development organization. Our software applications are in use around the world and are critical systems in aeronautical navigation, airdrop planning, and aircraft mission planning & execution. With the latest development methodologies and tool sets, JSEC engineers have a broad range of responsibilities. We develop the software requirements, design the architecture, write the code, integrate and test the code, manage the software configuration, and upgrade the applications.



We are looking for an IT/Network Systems Engineer 1 to support the JSEC program in Hudson, New Hampshire.



**Job Summary:**



To provide network administration support services within the scope of the program/project in accordance with ADD processes.



**Work Scope (Duties & Responsibilities):**



+ Controls user accessibility and restriction to the network application resources. Maintains computer workstations and Local Area Network (LAN) connections as well as setting server folder permissions in accordance with the CMP and the directions of the CM.

+ Manages the operating system including settings, drivers, and licensing agreements.

+ Measures network accessibility and performance on a scheduled or interval timeframe.

+ Identifies infrastructure needs, reviews configurations, sets standards, researches options, identifies and documents planned modifications.

+ Tests servers, clients, networks, applications, and systems prior to installation.

+ Installs network software, updates and upgrades existing applications, and monitors usage.

+ Develops and maintains diagnostic procedures for acceptance testing, validation, and fault isolation of newly implemented systems.

+ Maintains an inventory of all network resources. Identifies and tracks all resource re-allocations.

+ Detects and prevents security violations and/or virus infections. Provides system recovery for such violations and intrusions.

+ Manages and optimizes the desktop and network data and storage activities including system file organization, DB management, hard disks, on-line storage and optical storage devices.This includes archiving and restoring all storage systems.

+ Ensures all program files designated for backup are correctly backed up and conducts a test recovery at least quarterly.

+ Ensures the media used to store the backups is maintained in a secure location and that the monthly full backups are maintained off site to preclude loss in the event of a catastrophic incident per the disaster recovery policy.

+ Provides technical leadership and assistance to other ADD and support personnel.

+ Provides training to employees in the utilization and/or application of newly developed networks.

+ Provides technical information, advice, and guidance to development and test engineers relative to networking requirements.

+ Attends meetings and prepares technical reports and documentation.Performs network management tasks (i.e. updating netware libraries, troubleshooting system problems, etc.)

+ Completion of employee performance appraisals and employee counselings, if assigned the responsibilities of employee supervision.

**Qualifications**



**Education and Experience:**



Two (2) years of college in a computer field and five (5) years of related experience or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience for a total of seven (7) years.



Progressive relevant training and/or certification in appropriate discipline may be substituted for one (1) year of education or experience requirement.



Knowledge, skills & abilities required:



Knowledge of, and skill in applying, most of the following:



+ Software engineeringprinciples, methods, and practices in the assigned specialty area

+ Requires a working knowledge of network design and network communications theory. Experience must include implementing procedures for network development and operations, interfacing with customers to refine network system designs and perform problem analysis. Employee must have direct experience with the following: Microsoft DHCP, DNS, and Active Directory; Microsoft Exchange; networking computing systems (hardware and software) over a wide range of network topologies, including special point-to-point, Wide Area, and Local Area hardware and operating systems; knowledge of network systems architectures and client/server computing modes; network operating system experience and proficiency using OPEN VMS, UNIX, NOVELL Netware, or Microsoft NT/2000/XP/Vista; the TCP/IP protocol suite including FTP, TELNET, NFS, SMTP, EGP, RIP, BGP, SLIP, PPP, SNMP, or NOVELL IPX/SPX; network standards, (i.e., FDDI, ATM, IEEE 802.3, 10Base5, 10base2, 10baseT); network management software, concepts and troubleshooting techniques and diagnostic tools; network security issues including those associated with INTERNET connectivity and the application of "firewalls"; a high order programming language such as FORTRAN or C (experience with C , C#, Visual Basic, or Visual C is desired).



Training & Certifications:



+ Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)



Guidelines (level of supervision required to perform):



+ Works independently, but within the framework the supervisor established and in conformance with established practices and prescribed procedures; and refers problems not covered by the supervisor's instructions or guides to the supervisor for assistance.

+ Work involves: carrying out tasks requiring application of specific standards, methods, and procedures; and a complete segment of an assignment or project of broader scope.

+ Work affects the overall accuracy, reliability, acceptability, and timeliness of the final work products or services developed or delivered by higher-level co-workers.

+ Work consists of various duties that involve applying a series of different and unrelated processes and methods.

+ The employee decides what needs to be done based on analyses of the subjects and issues related to the assignment; and selects appropriate courses of action from many acceptable alternatives.

+ The employee identifies and analyzes important factors and conditions in order to recognize and apply an understanding of interrelationships among different IT functions and activities.

Physical Requirements:



Work is primarily sedentary. Some walking and standing may occur in the course of a normal workday in connection with travel to and from meeting and conferences.



May carry light items, such as reports, data products, notebooks and laptops.

Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner to get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.



Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision.



Must perform work activities requiring interaction, negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others.

Attendance:



With the exception of STD/LTD/FMLA & approved time off, attendance is considered essential.Must be able to work within the shift hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.May be required to work outside of normal shift hours when required for mission support.



Travel:



Work may require occasional to frequent travel.



**Other Essential Functions:**



Must pass drug testing.



Must be able to secure and maintain a security clearance.



Must be a U.S. Citizen.



Must be able to read and write effectively in English.
